Return to Joshua Tree National Park! UPDATES!

January 31 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • We’ll meet up at 10:00 at the Joshua Tree Visitors Center on Park Blvd.  Please maintain social distancing.  We’ll have a short orientation meeting outside and then head out around 10:15
  • There is an entrance fee to the park of $30 (per vehicle); those with Senior Park Passes are free.
  • There is NO food service in the park, so plan to bring a picnic lunch since we’ll likely tailgate at one of the picnic areas parking lots at lunchtime.
  • Bring:
    • Jackets, just in case it’s a bit cool
    • Chairs (for tailgating)
    • 2-way radios.
    • Food & water
    • Comfortable walking or hiking shoes.  There’s lots of fun stuff to explore and climb on, so bring that stuff with you.
  • Last year, we wrapped up the day at the JT Saloon. We should expect them to have take-out only, so we should plan to order out and tailgate there as well.  If we get more information, we’ll pass it on.
  • Please note that this is more of an adventure tour than a driving event. We’ll be driving to various locations in the park, but be prepared to do some hiking to get to the fun stuff. There’s a 1-mile easy hiking trail at the area where we’re having lunch.
  • Masks are mandatory, per CA rules, so please be prepared to wear them. We all want to be safe. Also, be aware that it is a National Park, so the new rules on mask wearing on Federal lands would apply.
  • Here’s the itinerary (note: times are flexible)
    • 10:00 meet at Joshua Tree Visitors Center on Park Blvd
      • 10:15 depart
    • 10:50 Key’s View (#1 on map)

      • 1:55 depart
    • 2:15 Cholla Cactus Garden Trail (#4)
      • 3:15 depart
    • 4:15 JT Saloon
      • whenever depart

Let’s go explore Joshua Tree National Park again!  Back by popular demand, save the date for Joshua Tree! So many cool things to see and do, and January is the perfect time to explore!  There are visitor centers, a touring route, and hiking trails!

We’re looking forward to another visit to Joshua Tree National Park!

On Sunday, some folks may want to meet up (optional) near the Country Kitchen restaurant (61768 29 Palms Hwy, Joshua Tree) around 9:00am for take-out and to pick up sandwiches for your mid-day munchies (there are no food facilities in the park). If the Country Kitchen is busy, there are several other choices at the same intersection.

At 10:00, we’ll head around the corner (literally) to our official start at the Joshua Tree Visitor Center, where we’ll take a quick look at the exhibits, our itinerary, pick up a free map and head out around 1015.

See the above details for updates!

– Bring!
– 2-way radios (there is NO cell service in the park!)
– a jacket (high temps should be in the 60s, but it could be windy at Keys View)
– sandwiches or snacks and water for mid-day munchies

– annual passes are accepted (such as Senior pass)

see attached map to follow along!
