Michael Garcia takes the over reins as club president

An era of new leadership has begun with Michael Garcia taking over the reins as SCMM President. Garcia, along with a slate of new officers, was officially announced during the Santa Anita Day celebration on January 20.

Garcia will be heading the team of club officers and regional coordinators for the next two years. Joining him are Vice President Memo Santoyo, Treasurer Nancy Homer,  Events Director Craig Williams, Social Media Director Craig Berkwitz, and area coordinators Dave Flagg, Scott McIntyre, June Medved, and Craig DeGarmo.

Garcia issued the following statement:
My MINI fascination started as a young boy watching “The
Italian Job.” I knew then that someday I would have to own a
MINI. Fast forward a few decades, BMW revamps the MINI, and
again I get MINI fever. In 2012, I finally made the move to get
my MINI and have never looked back. Then, as the owner of a
new MINI, I went searching for like-minded owners. I found
SoCal MINI Maniacs — to my mind, the best MINI club around!

After stints as Treasurer and Vice-President, I find myself
assuming the mantle of President. I wish to thank you all for
allowing me to serve as SCMM President for the next two
years. I appreciate the opportunity to add to the already
significant contributions made by prior club presidents since the
club started back in 2002.

On behalf of all members, I wish to acknowledge our most-
recent past President Dan Skorcz, who has served us
extremely well over the past five years. Dan, we
thank you for your years of hard, consistent work as our
President. You have made the club such an enjoyable
experience for us!

Looking ahead, I am excited to work with my fellow officers in
continuing to make SCMM a fun, sociable club for MINI
enthusiasts. With a new website and a revitalized membership,
I feel this club will only grow and get better.

For me, SCMM is all about the people in the club — old friends
and new. You and all your contributions are what make this club
so great.

I would love your input and involvement, so please feel free to
contact either myself or any of the officers about suggestions,
comments, or questions. We are excited to help turn your ideas
into new club traditions. I eagerly look forward to sharing more
experiences with fellow “Maniacs” and to see where our MINI
adventures take us!

Thank you again for your support and MOTOR ON!

Michael Garcia
